Superior Siren at Rapids Brewing

Rapids Brewing Co.214 N Pokegama AveGrand Rapids, MN55744 Map

Superior Siren performs solo as part of the 2021 Minnesota Tour.

Superior Siren recently released the solo EP “Kill Your Darlings,” and will travel throughout the state to share the new collection. The album and tour were funded through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. A goal of this project is to remain connected to residents and communities of Minnesota. Superior Siren will perform free, live, outdoor shows as a solo act throughout the summer.

About the album:

SUPERIOR SIREN
KILL YOUR DARLINGS
A SOLO COLLECTION

“This collection of songs is an ode to past relationships, and how those experiences influenced the relationship I have with myself. By knowing and loving others I have expanded my ability to know and love myself. Amidst the authentic connections and genuine joy, I discovered unlearned patterns and the darkest shadows. Within the depths I found immense opportunities for healing and growth. And now it is time to make peace with the past and move forward. The meaning I connect with the literary reference ‘Kill Your Darlings’ is letting go of what no longer serves you. My intention is to release this collection and create space for the new.” - Laura Sellner

Vern Bishop

Rapids Brewing Co.214 N Pokegama AveGrand Rapids, MN55744 Map

Vern Bishop started singing as a young boy, but it wasn’t until he was in the service in 1968 that he started learning guitar well enough to accompany himself while singing some Johnny Cash and Hank Williams songs.

Since then, he's played shows in Branson, Missouri; Mountain View, Arkansas; Georgia; Alabama and Nashville. One of his biggest thrills was to sing two Hank Williams songs on the stage of the Rhyman Auditorium for a tour group. He has opened shows for Stonewall Jackson, Narvel Felts, Porter Wagoner, David Frizzell, and other artists.

He is a solo musician in the singer/songwriter tradition, with an evocative, powerful voice and dexterous, multifaceted guitar playing. His performances are compelling and memorable. As a vocalist and acoustic guitar soloist, Miltich has appeared live on Minnesota Public Radio on several occasions and toured college campuses, coffeehouses and clubs throughout the region. He has headlined several concerts with singer/songwriter, David Stoddard. He was a featured performer at the Midwest International Guitar Summit in September 2011 where he appeared in concert with Ann Reed and Claudia Schmidt. Jason Waldron Live at RBC

Rapids Brewing Co.214 N Pokegama AveGrand Rapids, MN55744 Map

Jason grew up on the family farm north east of Effie…. he did plenty of animal chores as well as logging with his father.
In his teenage years he decided to simplify things by putting a new floor in his great grandpas wooden grainery and lived in it.
It was 16ft long by 10ft wide. Side walls were 4ft high. (No windows)…
He towed it out in in the middle of the field, put a barrel stove in the end without the door and started using only draft horses.
He put in a 1 and a half acre garden and had 2 milking cows.

In addition to simple, off the grid living, Jason always enjoyed singing and he started playing guitar when he was 27 years old.
Some local music veterans helped him start a band about five years ago.
And he’s been enjoying playing ever since!

Some of the artists Jason likes to play are :

Tyler Childers
Hank Jr
Colter Wall
Buck Owens
Hank 3
Waylon Jennings
Johnny Cash

Drew Peterson at RBC

Drew Peterson at RBC

Rapids Brewing Co.214 N Pokegama AveGrand Rapids, MN55744 Map

Join Drew Peterson for a special night of original, lyric-heavy Americana at Rapids Brewing Company!

"Drew Peterson comes from a long line of musically inept Norwegian Farmers (unless you count his Grandpa Pops, the town drunk, who played the harmonica and concertina for booze). Born without natural talent, Peterson tackled his musical endeavors the way he had been taught while growing up on a farm in rural Minnesota - hard work and lots of practice. And practice is what he’s been doing for 20 years. With clever, dry humor, thought-provoking lyrics, and a performance style that can transform from intimate listening room to rowdy festivals and bars, Peterson always gives his heart and soul to the stage."

Exterior of the Rialto Theater in Grand Rapids

Photo by the University of Minnesota Archives

The Rialto Theater

We’re housed in the former Rialto Theater in downtown Grand Rapids. After its opening in 1934, the theater ran films for almost 50 years, showing classics such as ‘The Birds’ and ‘Star Wars : The Empire Strikes Back’.  Just like the old Rialto, Rapids Brewing Company is  a place to come together- a hangout, a place to be. Although we’ve fully renovated the building, we took great care to pay tribute to the original design and the memories created here. The venue is designed to optimize the production values of performances by musicians and artists and keep the spirit of entertainment alive.
